Tramshed hosted some fantastic work experience and placement students this spring, including 3 pupils from the Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys. We have great schools on our doorstep and this one is a bit special for us - it is where our Chair, Roger Wilson, was a pupil before he embarked on his career as a professional musician, teacher and Orchestra Manager. He worked with artists such as Lesley Garett, Bryn Terfel, James Brown and Quincey Jones. Roger is now the Co-Founder and Director of Operations, Black Lives in Music, addressing the current inequality of opportunity for Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse people aspiring to be artists or professionals in the Jazz and Classical music industry.

The Year 10 Woolwich Poly students came to Tramshed for a 2 week placement in March to try recording processes and support our Sorry Not Sorry tour of schools in Abbey Wood. Towards the end of their time with us they looked at our use of space in the foyer. They told us that the way the space appeared from the outside - with the beautiful glass doors - made them feel as if the building was a bit civic. They told us that they had been a bit surprised at the warm welcome from everyone inside.

They created great designs to help us create a more welcoming feel, to communicate more about what they saw in the creativity and community inside. We loved the suggestions so much we've started to bring them to life!

Design....

Reality!

What a treat that within a few weeks we had an actual Tramshed inspired published book sitting on these shelves. Dramatic Voices Support Tutor Holz shared the book he had written about how people communicate in different ways.

You can read this brilliant picture book in our foyer and get your own copy here
