Operation Shrink, 7:30pm
Operation Shrink is an autobiographical solo show that delves into my personal struggles with an eating disorder. More deeply, the show discusses my diagnosis of 'Atypical Anorexia' and what it means to be an Anorexic that isn't underweight. The show breaks down our expectations of what someone with an eating disorder might look like and touches upon themes of obsessive exercise, misunderstandings within the medical system, the toxicity of the dance industry, and emotional abuse. The show utilises an exciting concoction of scripted monologues, intense workouts, tap dance, and spoken word, with humour and wit, to tell the story from the moment I first told anyone about my eating disorder, to the present day in which I am 2 years discharged from the eating disorder clinic. Operation Shrink is a serious show that aims to raise awareness and break stigmas, but it is also a show that is filled with laughter, joy, love, and community.
About the Artist
Ella McGran (she/her) is a freelance theatre-maker, facilitator and producer based across London and Hertfordshire. Having started her career in the arts as a tap dancer, Ella went on to train at Rose Bruford College where she completed the 'Acting Foundation' course and recently graduated with a first-class degree in 'Theatre and Social Change'. Having spent her teenage and early adult years battling with disordered eating and mental illness, Ella's creative work is often centred around these topics in an effort to raise awareness, break the stigma and instil confidence in young people. That being said, Ella's work extends across a wide range of topics and theatre types. She has a particular interest in Sensory Theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences. Since graduating Ella has worked as Assistant Producer on the Rose Bruford Open Talk series hosted at Tramshed, Teacher on the Tangled Feet Mindfulness Project in Luton, as well as teaching and facilitating workshops for various different organisations such as Sting Performing Arts, Stagecoach, and Hamilton International Training Academy.
The Diana Auction, 9:00pm
Princess Diana Spencer is considered one of the most fashionable women to have ever graced the public eye. From her engagement to Prince Charles in the early 80’s right through to her death in the late 90’s, British tabloids continue to fill their pages, obsessed with talking about her. Step into HRH Aphrodite I’s pop-up auction, as she sells off some of her very own ‘Princess of Wales’ looks. Turning back to 1980, she’ll offer her own unique insight into the wide and wonderful world of Diana’s wardrobe — and puts them up for sale. The Diana Auction is an hour-long participatory show about clothes, media scrutiny and death. While Aphrodite puts her frocks up for bid, your job is simple: see what you like and bid like hell ’til you get it.
