We are hosting a variety night of music, comedy, drag and more to raise vital funds for Tramshed and our community work in south-east London.
We run weekly performing arts programmes for young people and for adults with learning disabilities. We are a funded organisation, working with amazing partners who support our work. Between April 2023-March 2024 we have:
Worked with 741 unique participants
Partnered with and hosted 22 community organisations
Worked with and paid 130 artists and creatives
Had 8,238 people see our shows
Produced a brand new production and planned 3 more that took place in Summer 2024
Offered work experience to 8 local school students and 7 HE Placements
Our dedicated and passionate team work hard to make sure that Tramshed is safe and welcoming space for anyone to express their creativity. However, the hard truth is that it is growing more expensive to deliver the work we do in the way we want to do it.
Since the pandemic years, several of our costs have increased. At the same time, inflation has meant the funding that we do receive does not stretch as far. In real terms, we receive around 25% less in core funding now compared to 2019. This is while costs such as energy have gone up 114% since 2019 while other costs like business services and staffing have also significantly increased. Despite these steep financial challenges, we have remained committed to running a community creative hub.
Over the next three months we are aiming to raise £15,000 to secure our future by focusing on three key areas:
Sustainability
We want to ensure that every programme we run is never at risk of being pulled due to a lack of financing, making sure there is always going to be a Tramshed for those who need us the most.
We also want to run our building in accordance with environmental principles and leave a positive impact on our planet as well as our community.
Being a sustainable organisation also means having a team that can fulfil their duties without burning out. That is why we are committed to filling gaps in our team and continuing to be a London Living Wage employer.
“There are no other suitable spaces with transport links and flat access. Tramshed is our home it is one of the only places I feel safe, where young people feel safe” Caribbean Social Forum Member
Safeguarding
We want to ensure that all our staff have the highest level of training in all aspects of safeguarding. We already provide full DBS checks for all staff, as well as safeguarding and first aid training. But our jobs, working with people from many different segments of society, requires us to be up to date with the latest and best methodologies of safe practice. We want to go above and beyond what is legally required of us to ensure that everyone who interacts with Tramshed is safe, protected and cared for.
Preserving A Local Beacon
The Tramshed has been a home for live music, cabaret, theatre and comedy since 1973. Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GLYPT) has been delivering creative programmes for young people in south-east London, also for over half a century. We took over the building in 2009, rebranding to reflect the amazing history of this building.
We are proud custodians of this space and want to ensure that our doors remain open and welcome to the people of Woolwich and beyond.
It currently cost us around £800 to open the building for a typical 10-hour day. We do have ambitions to utilise the commercial potential of the building. In plain terms, increasing our revenue from hiring out the space. But we NEVER want to lose the essence of what makes this space so special; the fact that it belongs to everyone.
Although the future brings up challenges, we know that Tramshed has enormous potential. We also know that the need for the services we offer are greater than ever.

PJ Pilcher
Hi folks, I’m PJ Pilcher. How do you do? I’m an entertainer, writer and artist, better known to many as P.J the Magical Clown. I also happen to be a member of Clowns International and South London Magic Society, not that I like to brag or anything! And get this, I have performed at schools, birthday parties, festivals and even on the London Eye! Incredible, huh? Being on the autistic spectrum has enabled me to work with many companies who work with people with special needs, including Graeae Theatre Company, Shakespeare Schools Festival and Camden Council as a performer, ambassador and drama consultant. I’m also part of Tramshed’s Dramatic Voices Theatre group, for whom I have written the pantomime of Aladdin and his Magical Lamp.

Cheap Crust
Cheap Crust (AKA Sean the Cheap and Crusty the Clown). Do you remember your last family gathering where your little cousins forced the entire family to watch their weird, weird performance? Did you feel disgusted, ashamed, kinda into it? Well, Cheap Crust is here to recreate this feeling, except the cousins are also brothers and are also best friends and also have a little je ne sais quoi (an upsetting sexual chemistry) that will make you wonder: did I really need to witness this?
